Among the Kattunayakan community, music occupies a special place in their daily lives, strongly linked to their cultural and spiritual identity. Most Kattunayakans participate in music and dance, often in collaborative settings, during downtime. Each family typically has access to flute-like instruments, and groups are often composed of Arai and Thambattai (drum), Kuzhal (aerophone), Gedjai (anklet), and possibly Thaalaa (cymbals). Flute-like instruments and drums that belong to the Kattunayakan people are held in high esteem and may be found in sacred boxes with items of similar veneration. Such items are oftentimes emblematic of their usefulness in Kosarital, or "performance", and other social rituals and celebrations.
