Solung Festival , arunachal pradesh

The Solung Festival in Arunachal Pradesh fulfills all the essential requirements that are vital for the Adi people in Arunachal Pradesh. This festival is important to the Adis as the harvest festival that marks the close of the sowing season. It is celebrated the first week of September every year with rituals and prayers offered to gods for a good harvest. Traditional dance, music, and feasting are all aspects of festival-offering as unifying purpose and spirit to the entire community in unison and gratitude

Adis live in some districts of Arunachal Pradesh: Siang, East Siang, Upper Siang, West Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, Shi Yomi, and Namsai. They have a very strong culture, and integrated rice-fish farming is called for with astute knowledge of ecology and natural resource management. They use Tani as their language and worship the sun, called Donyi, and the moon, called Polo

Beginning from presentation of animals by village sharma- a whole lot of rituals and ceremonies occupy the festival called Solung. It comprises of traditional songs sung, dances danced, procession through the village. It involves the prayer with guidance from the good harvests and blessings for the coming year

Indeed, the Solung Festival can be said to be truly in keeping with the traditional practices of the Adi tribe. Traditionally though, it moves from one village to another. Traditional dance and music, and feasting. It allows members of the community to come together and share their customs while appreciating their unique locality

This festival is well complemented with the participation of Adi elders and the youth. Unites and encourages everyone to participation with all during the celebration, thus cementing social ties in which the cultures of the tribe are continued
