Dakhna – Traditional textile of Bodo Tribe, assam

The Dakhna is one of the traditional garments used by the Bodo women. This garment is traditionally used in yellowish tone along with the use of vibrant colors like red, green etc. The borders of the fabric are decorated with small diamond symbols woven in green thread. This beautiful textile is used during cultural events, ceremonies, and traditional gatherings as well as daily life. The vibrant Dakhna adds a traditional look characteristic to Bodo attire.

Delicate tiny diamond-shaped designs have been embroidered in a brilliant green thread along the borders of the Dakhna, giving room to these beautiful designs woven symmetrically to enhance the vision with elegant sophistication. The geometric patterns are of significance as they signify nature and tradition coming together with finesse on the body donned by Bodo women. Bodo women put on the Dakhna as part of their tradition.

Dakhna is part of dresses they wear during festivals, occasions, dance as well as in their daily lives. The Dakhna is made up of pretty bright colors and patterns. It tells a tribal story about its craftsmanship and wealthy textile legacy. One such example is a green border motif matched with the yellow base of the Dakhna. The diamond-shaped green border adds sophistication and grace to the textile. The significance in Bodo culture is that green stands for fertility and nature.
