Dimasa

The Dimasa, a tribe endemic to Assam's Dima Hasao, is formed by rich heritage and culture sustainable living traditions. They create utilitarian products, mostly from natural products using bamboos, canes, and other basic raw materials, the craft of which has been developed very strongly over generations. Most of their daily activities manifest great reverence towards nature wherein types of activities related to dwelling, farming, etc., are all predicated on self-sufficiency in harmony with nature. The Dimasa tribe values the eco-friendly properties of bamboo and cane and uses those resources with minimum footprints.

Kampulu

The Kampulu basket is made of bamboo and cane, materials found in abundance in Dima Hasao. These strong yet pliable materials ensure that the basket is light yet durable. The basket strength- combining cane's strength through weaving with the pliability of bamboo could withstand the rigors of routine use. The Kampulu basket is mainly used to keep vegetables, but it can be used to store other perishable foods for long keeping. The reason for this is that through its open weave, the air circulates and mildew does not develop. The design of Kampulu almost makes it portable enough to be used in homes or fields, underscoring thoroughly the role it plays in augmenting the Dimasa tribe's agrarian economy and preserving produce".

Kampulu

The Kampulu basket is more than functional; it is symbolic of the Dimasa tribe's sense of sustainability, craftsmanship, and respect for nature. Generational, the skill of producing Kampulu baskets is a cultural heritage that reaffirms cultural identity. The basket symbolizes survival and community and as a working artefact and as a cultural artefact in celebration of the Dimasa's relationship to the land and its heritage in being eco-responsible.
