Jiban Narah is a distinguished Mising poet and cultural figure whose work is well-known in Assamese literature. His poems reflect a deep engagement with Mising heritage as well as modern Assamese culture. He has received the Century Sahitya Sanman from Assam Sahitya Sabha in the year 2016, as well as the Sabda Award for his works at the Bangladesh Poet Meet. On World Poetry Day 2018, he read poetry with other famous poets, indicating his strong literary importance within and beyond Assam.

The Mising People are among the indigenous tribes of Assam, whose very characteristic is their language, customs, and an agrarian lifestyle. Originally riverine, the Mising community celebrates Ali Aye Ligang, a festival emphasizing the dependency of agriculture. Most of Jiban Narah's work often makes references to the Mising cultural landscape or even depicts close relationships of the Mising people with the rivers and forests of Assam, while it also contributes toward the preservation and attention to Mising traditions at a larger Assamese scale.

Quite simple and challenging was his early life. He was born on November 4, 1970, in the small, flood-prone Mising village of Morangial Gaon in Golaghat district. He lived in an isolated area, which mostly moulded him into a very sincere and sober person, always doing well in his studies. He finished his primary schooling in the village, higher studies at J.D.S.G. College, Bokakhat, and later earned his Master's in Guwahati University. His growing years in the rural setting deeply affected his poetic voice and cultural outlook.

Through his association with socio-cultural organizations like “PARIDHI” and educational initiatives like Navarup Jatiya Bidyapith, Narah fosters cultural awareness and education among underprivileged communities. He organizes seminars, workshops, poetry meets, and cultural exhibitions across Assam, promoting Assamese and Mising heritage. His commitment to quality education for marginalized children and his cultural outreach exemplify his dedication to societal development, using literature and culture as tools to bridge educational and social gaps.
