Flat Bamboo Basket for drying crops
description
DangraTakla is a sort of traditional huge flat basket made of bamboo, used and manufactured by the Gadaba tribe of Odisha. The Gadabas are expert bamboo weavers; they mainly use this basket for drying crops after harvest.
The DangraTakla is made entirely of split bamboo strips and has a squarish base and opening, with four distinct projected corners at the bottom. These projections provide structural stability and help in balancing the basket on uneven surfaces such as fields or courtyards. Its flat design is ideal for spreading grains, seeds, or pulses to dry under the sun, allowing air and sunlight to circulate evenly. The following are two different types of basket weaving techniques. The rim is made with a twisted bamboo warp to provide strength and beauty. This twisted edge gives the basket a different form of identity, and strengthens the upper construction. The body of the basket is woven in a regular mat-style form, whereas it will allow a surface for neatness for the crops.Usually yellow in color, the basket offers not only a pragmatic use but also displays the Gadaba's sense of design and cultural-symbolism because yellow stands for prosperity and for more. The Dangra Takla typifies how the indigenous communities of the Gadabas have converged utility and tradition with sustainable use of resources into life.
