It is entirely blackened, as the blacks are associated with strength, mystery, and reverence in some tribal aesthetics. The face is detailed with through engraving: eyes, a long face, prominent ears, nose, and mouth, in a way that offers a life-like expression of age and wisdom.A bracelet carved onto the left wrist adds to the intricate detailing; possibly denoting status, achievements, or tribal identity. For the Konyak Nagas, such statues often serve as commemorative or spiritual objects, honoring ancestors or representing mythical figures from oral traditions. Through this sculpture, the Konyak people put their respect for elders into practice and to their legacy, preserving cultural memory through wood.
