Traditionally, this comb is worn by men of the Shindoo tribe and it holds a cultural meaning in daily life as well as ceremonial instances. In many tribal cultures, these are symbols not just of personal but also of socio-cultural identity, status, and heritage rather than just personal use. The engravings on comb are said to have symbolic meanings or depict the link of the tribe with nature and spirituality that becomes apparent in their material culture. Many of these indigenous tribes in northeastern India have made Shindoo an indigenous tribe. They mostly live in states such as Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh. The rich and varied culture of the tribe is their traditional crafts that keep passing through generations. Hence, combs, like many other tribal artifacts, help to understand the daily lives and cultural expressions of tribes.
