short description
The Chang Naga tribal group, settled in the Tuensang district of Nagaland, is famous for its artistic and specific personal care, such as combs. The set of bamboo combs is therefore not just usable but bear much in the aesthetic and cultural value that is relative to their traditional tribal identities. These sets contain three highly decorative, petite bamboo combs and a brush made of hair from the fruit of the pandanus tree-an example of sustainable plant materials collected from the standpoint of locality. The whole combs are two of the types using split bamboo, which is stiffly twined using cane strips, proposing an ornamental and structurally strong feature. Each of these combs is twin-incisored, i.e., there are teeth on two sides, thus applicable in multipurpose operation- untangling hair and styling hair.

The last one in the group is completely different. It is a long bamboo comb, having one serrated edge used for grooming, the grip hence formed by the extended portion of the working edge. With such ergonomic design to hold and use, it showcases the tribe understanding form further of functionality. Hair combs among Naga tribes, for instance, the Chang Nagas, are beyond mere grooming implements. They also function as status symbols, personal identity markers, or in ceremonial gift giving. This addition of a hairbrush made of pandanus fruit shows how unique is in the adaptation of materials from nature, which is not very found in other tribal regions in India. This is just one of those beautiful sets of combs that showcase Chang Naga material culture above sustainability, craftsmanship, and aesthetic appeal.
