short description
A beak-shaped cane helmet, this traditional headgear worn by members of the Abor tribe of Arunachal Pradesh is a testimony to the tribal ingenuity in symbolism. It has been carefully woven from cane strips and placed over hexagonal openings spanning its entire surface to allow the helmet to give away some air and be flexible. A unique thing about this headgear is the layering inside. Between two cane weaves lies dried leaves and besides that, dried grass was added to give extra insulation and comfort. The rim is reinforced with a flat thick cane strip, giving stability and fart to it.

Different from all other headgears, the ornamentation has a symbol at its front, with two prominently placed boar's teeth signifying strength and valor of its user. There is a bark strap below as safety to ensure that the helmet can be well put in place, whether for any movement or battle. It is mainly an ornament of relevance in warfare and ceremonial occasions, however, an utility ornament. It is now a witness to the craftsmanship and the cultural attachment of members of the Abor tribe with their ecology and wildlife.
