description
Dumlup Lubra is a traditional cane helmet fashioned by the Abor and Adi tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, which offers some kind of protective headgear besides functioning as a utility piece whose artistry reflects the two kiths-indigenous people.
The helmet is made of very solidly and tightly woven strips of cane well braided to give it the quality of an enduring and gracefully textured object. Most of the upper part of the helmet forms a dome, while the brim forms an oval, almost circular-circular shape terminating with a full coverage around the head. It bears strong evidence of being used during times of traditional combative or ceremonial attire, in mythic performance, and even in tribal showing-off of bravery. The cane is a most well-known naturally available and renewable resource from which the tribes, acclaimed for shaping everything under the sun into functional art, have made it explicitly exploitative of nature. Besides, the juxtaposed designs of the Dumlup Lubra also give an impression of ergonomic comprehension and defense, which in the tribal sense, is an important aspect of living lives like the health of the individual, mainly physical, and that of the collectivity.
