description
This hat pictured is simply a perfect cane hat made by the Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. The splendid and fine craftsmanship with sleek weaving appear in flawless sync of split bamboo. This oval hat has a prominent middle dome that adds to its beauty and strength.
Designed completely by hand, the hat serves many purposes such as sun and rain protection, ceremonial attire, and identity. Use of cane, a natural and sustainable material found abundantly in the region, reflects the deepening relationship of the tribes with their environment and talent to use of native resources Traditionally, both men and women wear it during festivals, dances, or agricultural activities. It is paired with some traditional dress completing the entire visual identity of the Adi community. It uses a very simple design that requires precision and patience to create, making each be a product of both utility and art.
