short description
This is the Bamboo Fly Killer-a traditional tool of the Abor tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. Well-known for their ability in tool making and utensils using local materials, the Abor has always depended on bamboo for functional items. Such a fly killer is important to them as it protects food and living space from intruding pests-it is a showcase of resourcefulness and knowledge of natural materials. The fly killer has a long flat handle made out of a single piece of bamboo so that it is strong and durable, and the head part is triangular and intricately woven with bamboo splits, thus giving a very efficient but lightweight form suitable for swatting. It was probably triangular-shaped to cover a larger area, thus trapping and killing the pest more efficiently.
