short description
This plaster bust represents the male member of the Oraon tribe, the prominent tribes of Jharkhand. The bust is crafted with straight hair, flat and broad nose, prominent cheekbones, and thick lips, which is an indication of the definitive features of the Oraon ethnic group. The bust is provided with a circular pedestal to lend a dignified presence to it.The Oraon, also known as the Kurukh, are mainly pastoral-agronomic people who have a very close-knit association with their community and primarily the Chotanagpur Plateau. Their equality has been perpetuated by a rich oral culture consisting of myths, songs, and folktales. The male figure is the ideal representative of the rugged and really hard working Oraon men, who traditionally belong to agriculture and forest-based activities, not excluding craftsmanship.

description
It is a sculpture of a real Oraon man. It also serves as a tribute to the cultural pride of the community. As the material is plaster of Paris, it allows much detailing and has durability making it suitable for exhibitions to be mounted in museums or opened to schools as part of the educational programs aimed primarily at conserving tribal heritage. The Oraons continue to keep their language (Kurukh), festivals such as Sarhul and Karma, and their society intact despite all the modernization and migration effects. The bust, in its memorable realism, proves to inculcate respect for diversity among tribals of Jharkhand and the need to preserve their art forms.
