short description
Dao Iron is a traditional multi-purpose weapon and tool which has been used by the Angami Naga tribe in Nagaland with a warrior heritage and a mastery of craftsmanship. This dao has a broad iron blade at its top which tapers down gradually to fit into a stout wooden handle. The slight curve at the top of the blade adds even more to its distinguishing character and helps in balancing the weapon.

The decorative cane bindings on this dao are very interesting in themselves. Two plaited cane straps bind both the upper and lower ends of the handle; a third strap binds the middle and nearly the complete area of grip itself, providing comfort, grip, and decorative appeal. Traditionally, the dao has served well for agricultural work, wood cutting, and self-defence and thus has become an inseparable part of each Angami Naga's daily life. It carries cultural aspects and symbolic meanings attached to it in the Naga traditions, representing valor, self-reliance, and respect for their ancestors.
