short description
The Angami Naga are tribesmen who are nationals from the Naga Hills of Nagaland, India. They possess unique practices in their culture, one of which is the crafting of traditional tobacco pipes. Among these, perhaps the most widely known is the conical wooden pipe, which becomes very important among the tribe's chiefs. They use the pipe for major ceremonies and daily lives. The entire assembly has a conical wooden bowl into which tobacco or any other substance for smoking is placed. The bowl is therefore paired with a short wooden pipe through which smoke is drawn. The most noteworthy of this pipe is a reed pipe that is inserted into the wooden pipe.

The most noteworthy of this pipe is a reed pipe that is inserted into the wooden pipe.
While this reed part of the pipe does give some function to this pipe - it does bring the smoke smoothly down from the bowl. One of its unique decorative aspects is found in the middle part of the reed pipe, which is coiled with bright-colored cane strips. The workmanship, as well as esthetic appeal, becomes marked in these finely woven cane strips. Bright with colortones, this unique-decoration pipe signifies their culture as a whole and great function keeps with beauty. Generally, this pipe forms part of the ceremonies of Angami Naga chiefs, as it performs ritualistic and social functions. It is therefore not merely a smoking tool but a symbol of status and leadership.
