short description
This bamboo basket is made by the Rongmei Naga tribe in Nagaland and contains an element of traditional value and practical thoughtful design. Its body is made entirely of splitted bamboo and cylindrical outside. The basket has a circular opening at the top, a base somewhat squarish in dimension, that gives it that special structural feature that provides both volume and stability.

The top of the basket is provided with a matching squarish lid crafted out of the same bamboo material and affixed with a piece of bamboo split to allow easy lifting and closing. Around the mouth and base of the basket two bamboo strips are fixed each containing two bamboo rings. A steel rope is passed through these four rings-two at top and two at the bottom has a function of harness or for handling.
The basket could be used for storage or transport of grains, textiles, or other household items, and the rope-ring mechanism shows inspired thinking of the tribe in safely closing containers without the use of metal and synthetic materials.
