short description
The shape of the Hatang Baiye Unicon is that of a traditional thread holder, which is made by the Rabha tribe, mainly made of bamboo and jute. In the process of dyeing the thread, it bears testimony to the innovative ability of the tribe in preparing textiles as well as their profound dependence on resources from nature. Fine as functional craftsmanship supporting the larger framework of tribal weaving traditions. This tool includes a slender hollow bamboo tube that forms the central body of the holder. It is tightly and strongly joined at both ends by two fine carved splits of bamboo, tied with jute threads. This structure ensures stability and spacing for handling the threads while dyeing and does not entangle or permits evenly colored threads. Lightweight but biodegradable makes this structure more practical as well as environmental.

The Hatang Baiye Unicon usually works with other weaving instruments found in Rabha homes, especially by women who are usually part in thread preparation and loom weaving. Bamboo is a naturally available and widely occurring resource in the region and that shows how skillfully the tribe crafted those tools to: the cultural practice they adapted. This artifact is preserved by the Indian Museum, Kolkata, which gives a glimpse into the subtle yet much-needed tools of native textile craftsmanship.
