short description
The thee thrasher is a good traditional cotton thrasher of Rabha tribe of Assam; it is very simply made using local bamboo ivories of artistry and efficiency in its use. The thrasher is set up like a bow and consists of a plain stave made from a single piece of split bamboo slightly polished for smooth handling. The stitching is also done with bamboo; it is tensioned and held in place at both ends with cotton thread, signifying the tribe's ingenuity in using natural fibers for practical uses. This tool holds huge importance in the initial stages of cotton processing; the thresher thrashes the raw cotton, removes some of the husks, and prepares them for spooling into thread. The deftly made lightweight and long-lasting devices are easy to handle and very practical for long-time use, especially in this traditional textile-making practice within the community.

It is preserved today in the Indian Museum, Kolkata, this cotton thrasher is much more than a tool; it reflects a very deep-rooted knowledge of bamboo craftsmanship and sustainable living within the Rabha tribes. It thus serves as a testament of how every indigenous community creates environmentally conscious tools according to their needs passing on both function and heritage as it goes along.
