short description
The Angami Naga tribe, primarily found in the Kohima district of Nagaland, has a long-standing warrior culture, while the artistry and ceremonial grandeur built up over time. One of the many weapons made by them is the spear which has a special place in their armory, being ceremonial as much as it is practical for war. Although the spear is a practical weapon, it's designated to be even a ceremonial artifact. The Angami spear has a very elaborate design and symbolic ornamentations; it has a wooden shaft adorned skillfully with red-colored wool. This bright ornamentation increases the visual appeal of the spear but has cultural importance: red symbolizes bravery, valor, and warrior spirit in most Naga traditions.

The iron spearhead is leaf-shaped, sharply pointed, and made with precision, reflecting operational as well as aesthetic elegance. This shape is iconic of Angami weapons in signifying sharpness and agility in combat. Interestingly, at the but end of this spear, it has been fitted with a little triangular pointed piece of iron at rear end. This could be for several purposes-from balancing the weapon to secondary defense. It also exhibits the attention to very fine detail typical of Angami craftsmanship. Such spears were used in headhunting days, as also in ritual dances and cultural festivals such as Sekrenyi. Nowadays, such spears mean strong symbols of Angami heritage, pride and perseverance.
