The Wooden Dao Case is an inevitable accessory used by the Naga tribe, marred with glorious martial history and unmatched craftsmanship. It is a rectangular case made of durable wood with thepecific purpose to encase the dao- a traditional Naga blade known for its use in agriculture, hunting, and ceremonial purposes. The significant feature for this dao case is its extremely detailed dorsal surface, which is carved with motifs that speak of tribal identity, valor, and ancestral heritage.

The Naga tribes, spread between Nagaland and parts of Arunachal Pradesh, have been typically related to warrior traditions for a long time; the dao occupies a very important place in the life culture of the Naga people. The dao case, then, is not merely a protective sheath for the weapon, but an artistic expression. Carving designs usually feature patterns that are geometric or animalistic in stylized form, or may also have symbolic connotations relating to power and protection. Often, a carving just indicates the owner's status or celebrates an incident or achievement of a personal nature.
These cases are made in the traditional manner of carving wood, inherited through generations. Craftsmen will use the local hardwoods to produce functional yet splendidly ornamented pieces using simple hand tools. The dao and its case are usually worn slung across the shoulder or tied around the waist forming part of the Naga male attire on occasions like festivals and ceremonies.
Of late, wooden dao cases have come to be collected as pieces of tribal art, translating both the utilitarian skill and aesthetic traditions of the Naga people.
