The peahen represented in this humble metal sculpture is an exemplar of the artistic magnificence and the spiritual communion of the Khond tribe with nature. The Khond people, who live in the eastern fringes of India, particularly Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, practice art forms characterized by very fine detail, inspired by nature, and the worship systems of animism. All the traits of that bird- grace, beauty, and balance of nature- are held very dearly by the Khonds. The peahen is sculpted with minimal sophistication, symbolized by two projections to either side for wings.
