short description
Very gorgeous and practical hat made out of bamboos canes goes on to form part of the traditional attire of Idu Mishmi tribe residing in Arunachal Pradesh. The special hat is made by excellent artisans of the Idu Mishmi tribe with specific reference to bamboo cane and its design seems to resemble that of that Bolup hat in Adi community. This beautifully woven hat is synonymous with make works that brightly weave colors into that brighter and beautiful world of people's art flowing with nature.
Keeping in mind the requirement, the cane pieces are coiled to form the semi-elliptical bowl with horizontal, boat-shaped rim. Along with being strong, this design makes it very comfortable and bestows solidity, while it protects from sunlight and rain. Most of the work done on it also includes some decorative twisted cane ropes that contribute ornamentation to the hat, together with its unique aesthetics and the Idu Mishmi craftsmanship. The hat remains ventilated through little gaps amid woven bamboo strands, making it the most suitable for agricultural activity and long outdoor experiences. The design allows setting airflow well enough such that it aids in keeping the individual cool while involved in hard work.
Such hats are put to common usage in agriculture and tourism, making them hybrid objects of utility as well as aesthetic tribal handicraft. Bamboo cane hats are priced quite reasonably given their long life expectancy and craftsmanship. As tribal handicrafts, they contribute to the economy of the Idu Mishmi people as they are traded outside the clan and the state. In summary, the Idu-Mishmi culture and its traditional art of making practical, durable, and marketable handicrafts are encapsulated in the emblem of a bamboo cane hat.
