This traditional ornament is an integral component of their cultural tradition, portraying the women's prowess in basketry techniques. The Wangcho, being an indigenous tribe with settlements primarily in Arunachal Pradesh, India, have been making woven objects out of local materials since ancient times.Longtang is made from carefully selected cane not just for ornamentation but as an exquisite example of workmanship handed down through generations. Weaving consists of cane strips interwoven very skillfully to ensure that durable and flexible armlets are produced. These armlets are worn from occasions held for traditional ceremonies and festivals and hence represent the artistry and identity of the Wangcho people. In addition to the crafting of armlets, basketry for Wangcho women is important in that it works through utility items such as baskets, mats, etc. The Longtang itself remains an armlet for its beauty and more than an article of utility. It is also a natural showpiece of sustainable materials being used by the Wangchos in that they are utilizing natural resources while sustaining the environment.
