description
A people use this Tobacco Box - Syloo tribe of effective tobacco storage device quint wooden – handcraft. It is cut from a single wood piece, which makes it last longer. Almost square this box is, curiously enough, without a lid: it may be there accounted for very easy access to tobacco. Its lower part is color- black, perhaps as something ornamental or as a means of preservation. The Hylo in India, in Meghalaya, mainly celebrates tobacco. This is a way appreciated by culture among the people whose generations spend time on traditional ones with their form of socializing.
Mostly they used chewing and smoking, and tribes have this specialty in that it has a way of keeping and carrying, which gave birth to that kind of container. The design and workmanship are testimonies to the woodwork abilities of the tribe and the modes of living with wild and bamboo for the making of regular items.
The above tobacco box is now kept in the Indian Museum, Kolkata, as an ethnographic object of great significance. Although, it provides very interesting insight into the traditional lifestyle, material culture, and smoking habits of the Syloo people, it also exemplifies their art of indigenous artistry-most practical innovations in daily life.
