short description
The construction of a Pishki has two main components, i.e., a head or bowl, and the long pipe. These two are joint together through using a small diameter bamboo tube. The construction of the entire assembly is very convenient and sturdy. The pipe features two hooks, one beneath the bowl and another under the lower part of the pipe. A coiled fiber is securely tied between these hooks, effectively connecting and reinforcing both parts.

The Rabha mostly found in Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal are known for their semi-nomadic life, agriculture and handicrafts. Pishki is smoked in gatherings and gotten together for functions and rituals, signifying existence beyond the personal. Here, it serves not only as a personal activity but becomes part of the thread of culture and unity.A tradition of environment-friendly making has been symbolized through these pipes made of bamboo and natural fibers by the Rabhas.
Such preservation makes a place for the Indian Museum, Kolkata, as it is important in terms of the documentation and preservation of the cultural heritage of indigenous communities within India.
