description
Gher dance is five days' performance executed by dancers who keep a fast during that time. Dancers are known as Gherriyas for men and Gheranis for women. This heart-throbbing form of dance is accompanied by traditional musical instruments like bansuri (flute), shehnai, dholak, ram dhol, thali, kundi, and ghughra patta (metal ball belt) to exude a rhythmic and festive atmosphere.
This dance has a significant place in the National Tribal Dance Festivals, signaling the broader reach of the Rathwas' unique cultural identity. The documentary on Rathwa ni Gher explores the performance in the villages of Raisinghpura, Nakhal, and Gamani, wherein the primary glimpse of the continued traditions of this tribe is offered. Gher dance symbolizes not merely a coming together of a community in devotion but also encapsulates the deep bond that the Rathwas have with their inherited traditions.
