short description
Is an unstitched piece of cloth that is draped on the body as it forms an ornament and a skirt in the traditional dress of Mishmi tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. It is an ornamental piece embraced with multicolored stripes run across it. It is both worn as a skirt by wrapping it around the waist and in a sash manner. Such attractive colored stripes on this ornament not only stimulate the eye but also have meanings in the natural terms of relating beauty to all of these distinct aspects of nature.

As it is unstitched, it makes life very easy and handy for them at a practical level in everyday life. Since it is unstitched, making it adaptable by varied individual sizes with putting it to several uses-the main being that of household chores. The weaving skill is so intricated that it made the Mishmis depend on it for practical and cultural use from time immemorial. Using it for day-to-day works, it turns into one for use in ceremonial attire, which shows one's inheritance and identifies him with the tribe. Mishmi tribes are indigenous people who live in the foothills of the Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh and they have a rich tradition of textile weaving that has very strong impacts over their livelihood and social customs. Such multicolored stripes of textiles perhaps have meanings which are more ascribed to spiritual beliefs from the tribe as surrounding nature. The unstitched textile speaks about a perfect blending of use, beauty and tradition that the wearer would use to present his as well as her cultural identity and artistic sensibility.
