description
This waist jacket is part of the traditional garb of the Apatani people and is indicative of the rich heritage and craftsmanship that have entered into it. The geometric patterns testify to their artistic expression, but express two other things: before everything, practical use in the climatic conditions of the region, and there is a defining feature that highlights all those extremely detailed patterns that are just woven into the fabric: the black band at the back. This waist jacket is part and parcel of Apatani ethnocultural identity and an embodiment of traditional techniques of weaving passed down from generation to generation. The combination of white fabric with the black geometric design creates an eye-catching contrast visually; hence this becomes one of the finest types of Apatani heritage.
