short description
The Wancho necklace, which is adorned with colorful beads, is very wonderful and epitomises culture and art. This is a necklace that is made of colorful assortment of beads which are arranged with much painstaking effort into several designs. Many are from natural objects, but these necklaces testify to other things: they are relationship beads in the tribe's symbolic relationships with the environment. Depending on the motifs, the designs could either show geometric figures or free shapes that stand for different aspects of life, culture, and spirituality. The Wancho, which is an East Indian tribal community, mostly found in Arunachal Pradesh of the northeastern states in India, is largely into unique creations of jewelry which are distinctive to the community as used for day to day as well as festivities like festivals, weddings, and ceremonies associated with it. The Wancho necklace is not just beads; it is worn by women as a sort of cultural, social, and sometimes even merit appurtenance. Ancestral treasures thus stay as legacies through generations, bringing continuity of tradition and national pride.
Necklace-making thus has become in itself an idea of practice refined by bead making, which is an ancient tribal art, needing much skill and patience. The women then weave the beads into artistic patterns that sometimes are for decorative purposes and in many other instances are for symbolic purposes. Multi-colored beaded necklaces remind a woman of her relation to nature, custom, and community within society.
