short description
The Mishmi tribe shawl is one of those really very-near-weaving-feat examples that echo the culture of weaving derived from Arunachal Pradesh's native Mishmi tribe. This is the beautiful wrapper shawl made using a wonderful technique perfected over generations of weaving tradition. At either end, vibrant parallel bold stripes contrast each other perfectly. The central band/field however, is covered in geometric patterns, which are very characteristic features of tribal art, depicting natural objects, or some abstract ideas bearing needing to the meaning to the Mishmi.
Center rich with beautiful symbolic geometrical designs has brought the tribal identity and outlook toward nature and spirit towards it. Bold fiesta colors and eye-catching motifs reverberate the ability of the tribe to design and the importance of textiles in its culture.
Thus, Mishmi have never relied on the vast sources of nature for weaving and have induced that from very ancestral times as a tradition.
The shawl contains an important ceremony and festival, and sometimes it becomes part of the normal day activity. However, the shawl is an almost completely integrated form of symbolic communication by which social identity and belonging are constructed for the tribe with regard to craftsmanship and rich culture.
Thus, naturally, this shawl is among the most important cultural artifacts denoting the art, heritage, and identity of this tribe.
