short description
Indeed, wooden boards made by the Konyak Naga tribe really do have interesting subjects as much as their indigenous craftsmanship and artistic expression is concern. They indeed bear testimony to the traditional woodworking methods of the tribe, together with imbibing symbolic meanings incorporated in their cultural belief systems and aesthetic considerations. These dissimilar wooden boards can be presented as collection which comprises three parted rectangular bodies, each of it having merits and differentiations. The first board is black rectangular plank having geometrical designs, both carved and relief, engraved on the surfaces. Dark color may signify ritual significance or else may be a highly dramatic backdrop to the treatment of design. The second board boasts a beautiful pink background with highly ornate geometrical treatment on both sides. Very few pink could be found in tribal interiors, so that might signify some great important ritual or social functions.

wooden boards of konyak naga tribe
description
The third board is a dramatic one as its body is dissected into three sections and colored in three colors-red at the two extremes and black along the middle. This tricolour segmentation can have cultural relevance with the overlay of symmetric engravings. There may be connection with theme of hierarchy in the tribal context, identity, or cosmological belief systems. The engraved geometric motifs all present in the three boards are true to the very own Konyak Naga exceptional artistic style characterized by repetitive patterns, lines, and symbols basically obtained from nature and oral traditions. Storytelling, ritualistic, or parts of a ceremonial temple may have been uses of these boards. Interpretation of craft and design in these boards portrays the environmental moorings of the Konyaks and their mastery in using the woodworking processes to turn a cultural identity-sustaining artifact.
