short description
Aspects of the offwhite cotton, which prominently presents the aesthetics and skills of the Naga tribe in their refinement, is one such textile. The cloth so special is a narrow long piece of off-white cotton, which is basically worn by the different sub tribes of the nagas as traditional attire. The base color being so simple-whitish in itself- it is used as a background to hold detail to both ends. Both ends are ornamented with woven geometric designs arranged in a neat row and meticulously done by the red, black, and yellow threads. The motifs often signify tribal identity, valor of a warrior, or myth in culture-all themes recurring in Naga narrative textiles

The cloth thus has been made; by joining two pieces, it gives the desired width, as is the case with weaving, where narrow looms were more preferably used because they were portable and had greater use to the hill environment. The cotton thread fringes at both ends of the cloth are not just decorative; rather, they are traditional finishes and preserve the durability and 'aesthetic balance' of the piece. Thus, such cloths are symbolic to the Naga heritage and identity, used during cultural festivals, rituals, and traditional ceremonies. These textiles are still very much revered and are being preserved largely because of their cultural souvenirs and representation of the living traditions amongst the Naga people
