short description
The Warrior's Scabbard with Miniature Heads provides an extraordinary testimony for demonstrating the Konyak Naga's artistic skill and warrior culture. The scabbard consists of a leather belt, a wooden body, and ten human heads, all delicately worked from bone. Heads have been intricately carved and positioned on either side of the scabbard, tied intermittently along the belt itself. Such carved heads are symbolic of the warrior tradition of the tribe and its history of fighting and conquest.

Heads have been intricately carved and positioned on either side of the scabbard, tied intermittently along the belt itself. Such carved heads are symbolic of the warrior tradition of the tribe and its history of fighting and conquest.
The miniature heads thus serve as an important cultural marker of the headhunting tradition of the tribe and the importance of warriors in its society. The carving is done as beautifully as the expression in each head conveys a narrative about the tribe and the symbolic meaning attributed to it by the warrior. At one end, the scabbard is fitted with a pelted cane loop for the easy attachment of the scabbard to the warrior while, at the opposite end, there is a bamboo stick for securing the belt to the waist.
