War Hat of Singhpos Tribe
description
Moreover, the entire surface of this hat has been lavishly adorned with tufts of animal hair, being a symbol generally associated with ferocity and safety. A very strong rim is that made from cane strips, tightly strung to form durable straps for securing the hat while fighting or during a ceremonial performance. And indeed, there is a natural-metal combination incorporated into the war hat-two animal teeth fixed on one side, probably trophies from hunting or guardian spirits. A circular brass disc on the opposite side gives a clear contrast, perhaps representing status or papal favor. Hybrid-material craftsmanship like this reveals how much the Singhpos tribe values spirituality as well as practicality in association with their environment.
