This waist girdle from the Angami Naga tribe of Nagaland is how tribal textiles can be represented as adornment. The girdle is cotton woven, but it is narrow enough for the waisthold, especially when used as an item of ceremonial or occasion costume.

cotton waist girdle with red rhomboid pattern
description
This waist girdle from the Angami Naga tribe of Nagaland is how tribal textiles can be represented as adornment. The girdle is cotton woven, but it is narrow enough for the waisthold, especially when used as an item of ceremonial or occasion costume.
It showcases vivid rhomboids in woven bold reds, which have associations with energy, power, and festivity in Naga culture. An array of geometric shapes that reflect the hands of the tribe for handloom skills. Beautifully cowrie beads, which were historically used as currency but now are valued for their ornamental and semiotic functions, are sewn at distinct intervals along the girdle.
Like this, goat's hair fringes are added to the lower end of the band in which the designs are woven. These natural adornments provide a tactile richness coupled with cultural symbolism that may denote status or role in tribal rituals and dances.
