short description
Traditional woven baskets, bamboo baskets are the finely sewn household products made by the Mishmi tribe of the state Arunachal Pradesh, India. These finely woven baskets are made from bamboo and cane according to the basketry technique. The basket does not only serve as storage for household articles, but also serves as a very important part of Mishmi culture because of their fine craftsmanship inherited through generations. This extremely skilled weaving art is being passed down from generations to generations by the Mishmi. The whole craft of basketry is very functional as well as durable, which is what the Mishmi in India are meant for. It involves a careful selection of very fine bamboo strips and supple cane fibers before the weaving into the basket.
An important component of every Mishmi household is lightweight, strong, and durable, which is woven using carefully selected bamboo strips and flexible cane fibers; that is the process of making a Bamboo Basket. The woven patterns are functional as well as represent the aesthetic cultural wealth of the Mishmi tribe, with particular patterns sometimes denoting clan belonging. Traditionally used for storage of food, cereals, clothes, and petty household items, these baskets play an important role in keeping a house organized. Bamboo's nature is breathable allowing free air movement so microorganisms can't affect items kept inside for long.
