short description
Traditional pellet bow of Reang tribe of Tripura is the best example of self-sufficiency on the part of indigenous culture in developing hunting appliances using locally available materials. It consists of two main parts: a stave which is made of a piece of split bamboo, and a string which is also made of split bamboo. At the center portion of the string, two strips of triangular-shaped cane are intricately woven with a rectangular cane patch to form a pouch-like section, which is used to launch pellets. This type of non-lethal hunting weapon is generally used by Reang people for hunting small game or chasing off animals from fields and homes. The pouch cradle will hold tiny sized projectiles that will be released by pulling and releasing an elastic bamboo string. This will make the structure sustainable and lightweight, designed with acute knowledge of natural materials and physics.

Reang (also known as Bru) is one of the major tribes in the northeastern hilly state Tripura and has a very rich tradition in forest-based activities, bamboo craftsmanship, and a self-relied lifestyle. Hunting tools like this pellet bow are fashioned with the help of a few simple tools and passed down from one generation to another, thus refreshing the tribe's insight related to the nature. Nowadays, such implements are not widely employed in such activities due to the processes of modernization, yet they are significant relics for understanding the cultural heritage and subsistence practices of the Reang people.
