short description
These people have their own unique style of living with unique customs and traditions, namely weapons that are nearly entirely dependent on traditional tools for the essentials of life. An iron knife is one such important tool that witnesses the application in day-to-day life. The Bonda iron knife is a small tool with a semi-lunar iron blade and a wooden handle. The parts of this tool are the iron blade and wooden handle. Therefore, the cutting and slicing can be carried out with precision using the fine-tipped sharp edge. The handle is thick in the middle with a metal strip running across for reinforcement, which is held in place by three rivets, one of which is used to tighten the metal strip. At its bottom end, the handle has a hook with two rings attached to it for aesthetics and good grip. This knife holds such an important place in the life of the Bonda tribe. It is a good tool for hunting, cutting wood, preparing food, and fabricating other important paraphernalia. The Bonda people are renowned for the expertise in metals and thus know the art of forging such tools by the ancient technique. The durability and utility of the knife reflect the resourcefulness and great understanding of metalcraft by the tribes. The Bonda tribe has embraced many modern trends; yet, the knife and other traditional iron tools continue to be used as markers of cultural identity, symbols of indigenous craftsmanship, and a symbol of their custom. While artefacts are collected and stored, such an exercise will not be of much help to the heritage .of one of the oldest tribal communities in India.
