short description
This dao is known in the Khasi tradition as a Ka-Wait-Lyngem. It is a blade and tool used by the Khasi tribe of Meghalaya; it is made with a wide iron blade that has a fine cutting edge on one side and a thick blunt back on the other, extremely useful for slicing and chopping at the same time. The top of the blade is slightly upturned and almost projects from one end, lending a silhouette frequently associated with such blades as are found in the Northeast region of India. The blade is well secured into a cylindrical wooden handle, into which the tang of the blade is fitted for stability. The handle is narrow, but such fact ensures a sure grip, making it convenient for use-whether for clearing out paths in a forest, doing farm work, or self-defense. These types of daos were used almost every day and were more as symbolic objects, worn as part of a warrior or hunter's attire, with connotations of readiness and valor.

At present, the Khasi dao finds pride in the tribal legacy of India, illustrating how the Khasi had been gifted in the art of blacksmithing and use of natural materials from the surrounding.
