short description
The Terracotta Clay Model of a male figure represents one of the finest tribal crafts in India by the Mishmi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. This northeastern state is culturally rich and varied. The male model is designed barefoot, puts his feet on a squarish pedestal, and has the male figure dressed in traditional attire, as though looking into some of the daily life and personality of the Mishmi community. It is made of terracotta clay, painted brown, and features painted detailed eyes along with eyebrows and lips so carefully it looks alive. The man has a unique earring, one of the favorite ornaments of the Mishmi people, emphasizing their love for ornamentation and tribal identification. On his left side, a netted bag hangs from a strap. The most important is that this bag is used for storing forest produce, tools, or personal belongings while displaying the practical side of tribal life.

The figure also primarily holds a dao, a type of curved blade, slung from a holder over the right shoulder. The dao has a very significant role in the normal daily life of a Mishmi, as it fulfills the purposes of hunting, agriculture, and protection. At the same time, it is synonymous with self-reliance and survival skills. This clay model does more than serve as a decoration; it narrates Mishmi life, apparel, and their pride and culture. Such artworks keep the tribal traditions and impart the cultural history unique in the region to the others.
