short description
This traditional arrow from the Chunia Kenedy Malias tribe of Jharkhand exemplifies indigenous methods of hunting and making. It has a long cylindrical reed shaft, chosen for its lightweight strength that promises straight flight and speed. The iron arrowhead is richly ornamented and indicates a cruel intent; its design looks like a sharp beak of some bird, thus aiding entry and kill; the main neighboring sides have barbs that would prevent any easy removal from embedded status-this is very much suited for hunting or war.

description
This traditional arrow from the Chunia Kenedy Malias tribe of Jharkhand exemplifies indigenous methods of hunting and making. It has a long cylindrical reed shaft, chosen for its lightweight strength that promises straight flight and speed. Its head is strongly round into the shaft and tightly bound with a strip of palm leaf bound and glued around the joint, which shows a lot of care and reflects traditional binding methods with natural products. They had a meaning besides being just an arrow for hunting. An arrow of this sort meant agility/focus/survival instincts for the tribal culture. With respect to craftsmanship, this product exquisitely shows the tribe's skill in the combination of natural resources and metallurgical skills to produce tools that are both functional and culturally meaningful.
