The Split Bamboo Strips Basket is a very traditional utility handmade item of the Reang tribe, the very few tribal peoples of the northeastern state of India: Tripura. Eco-sensitive and dependent on materials, the Reang has always been good artisans of bamboo, suitable for simple, useful, effective living tools and containers. This basket, made of split bamboo strips, is cylindrical in shape, its weaving is intentionally very sparse, with enormous gaps in between the strips. This enables air to pass through it. Hence, it becomes lighter for carriage or for keeping loose items that do not require closure. Thus, making it a very useful thing. This basket is mostly used by the Reang tribe to store oil bottles since it allows seeing the contents and provides a secure ground for holding or moving them.

Among this basket, the most significant interest and of peculiar consideration is the handle made of twisted bamboo skin. Not only does it have the required strength and ability to take load, but it is flexible and makes carrying easy. The ends of the handle are well tied to the rim of the basket for carrying traditional weight of oil containers, either glass or clay, mostly found in tribal households. This bamboo basket is a testimony of environment-friendly artistry by the Reang tribe and their wonderful knowledge of local materials. Bamboo is an abundant and renewable source and is a pledge to a sustainable mode of living. They have such items in their daily usables in a Reang house.
