description
This traditional spear, was belonged to the Angami Naga tribe in Nagaland. It forms a perfect display of the hunting and battle weaponry that the Nagas possess. This spear consists of a detailed iron spearhead fixed to a wooden shaft. The lower part of the shaft is tapered for enhanced gripping or balance in movement or during battle.
This artifact is unique because of red and black colored hair, apparently of animal origin, wrapped around the upper shaft for decorative purposes. Not only does this tend to beautify the weapon, but it also represents tribal identity and status, even valor. The spearhead is well attached to the shaft, indicating durability and preparedness for battle.
For the Angami Naga, spears were a weapon and a symbol of the tradition of the warrior's culture. From the headhunting days and traditional ceremonies, spears of this kind played a very important role in the Naga customs.
