short description
This is a plaster bust of a Kol man, who comes from the Kol tribe of Madhya Pradesh-one of the oldest and most culturally rich indigenous communities in India. Set on a circular pedestal, the bust is an important ethnographic document for the physical characteristics commonly attributed to the Kol people. The figure has straight hair and a flat nose, both of which are adequate description of this community along ethnic lines. A well-defined moustache enhances the dignity of the visage, and the prominent collar bones bear testimony to the anatomical correctness which the artist sought. In all these, physical characteristics blend also with attributes of being simple and resilient, as discerned so often in tribal life.

Alongside forests and pretty much impossible lifestyles, they respect Mother Nature and their ancestors. Such artworks keep their identities alive and serve as a record for anthropological and cultural studies.Such sculptures in a museum or cultural exhibition help showcase the tribal diversity of India and help inspire recognition and respect for communities such as the Kol that survive in balance with nature.
