short description
Chetna weaving traditions among the Khasi tribe in Meghalaya have survived through generations and remain mostly top in women, who jealously guard them. This wooden warping instrument, as with its long body and conical top with large four circular holes below it, serves the most important set of modern tools as means towards a traditional Khasi-weaving setup. This would have probably been used on a backstrap loom or something similar, hand-operated to introduce warp or tensioned threads into a warping structure. If there were any holes, they would have presumably served as a guide or a slot to run the threads keeping them aligned, for separating yarns, or assisting in organizing different group threads into pattern. It is possible that the conical shape indicates use in looms design to tighten or anchor.
