short description
This community came about as an indigenous community in northern-eastern parts of India: mainly in Sikkim and West Bengal fragments. They believe in rich culture which speaks for itself through their superb craftsmanship of different articles meant for utility and artistic purposes through local source materials such as bamboo. This multi-colored split bamboo basket was given life using an extremely supple but durable material. Its base being cuboid provides stability as well as being topple-proof on flat surfaces. Also, one of the best parts that makes this basket different from the rest is the way cane strips are woven into the basket. These strips are bright red and green on the outer surface. Such bright colors would not only enhance the glimmer of very strong reflected light but also denote significance in the culture of people in Bhutia, where people usually mediate with symbols associated with certain aspects of their environment as well as life.

The flat structure is shown in tightly woven strips of bamboo that make it very sturdy. Natural bamboo along with bright contrasting colors of cane strips aptly portrays the taking under consideration of artistic sensibilities and skills of the people to design functional yet looking beautiful items. For the Bhutia tribe, this kind of basket has a purpose of carrying, storing, holding food and organizing home goods inside the households. Thus, it remains part of their daily lives and fire findings, which craftsmanship initiates from one generation down to the next, symbolizing the culture of the tribe.
