A Model of a Log Drum is a key symbolic artifact belonging to the Konyak Naga of Nagaland, India. This small model, which is made of brass and wood, embodies the essence of music, communication, and ritual performance in Konyak culture. The Konyaks are those most predominantly concentrated in the Mon district. They are marked as being one of the most visible and culturally diverse Naga tribes: displayers of their artistry and rich ancestral heritage. The model comprises a brass log drum installed on a wooden pedestal. Two human figures render on the sides of the drum, each with a stick in hand, striking pose as if to beat the drum. Such figures animate the scene as well as express the importance: the drum is for the log forms not only individual but more collectively

Log drums, also known in some areas as "Mong" or "Log Gongs", are hollowed tree trucks, usually of Bamboos cut and then combined with a small opening to provide sound, with drums used for relaying signals and announcements. They were mostly destined to be housed in the morung, the dormitory set for males, and very much part of village life, serving as the medium to call people to meetings, rituals, and the likes for warning danger. The sound of the drum was supposed to be sacred and potent. Pedestal and drum exhibited in the said model are ornately carved with patters of human figures, presumably representing ancestral spirits or participants in the observances of ritual ceremonies. These attempts have made even more depth to the object concerning culture and embedded storytelling. At present, this object is kept in institutions like the Indian Museum, Kolkata, as one has to see and hear how the tribe connects with its production in culture, sound, sculpture, and symbolism
