The Mithun-headed wooden sculpture is an traditional display artifact made by the Apatani tribe from Arunachal Pradesh in India. This is a semi-domesticated animal and can be considered a bovine species of great cultural and economic significance to various tribes of Northeast India: Bos frontalis. The Apatanis really belong to a nice heritage with nice craftsmanship in the making of these sculptures in wooden pieces with elaborate carving techniques.
Wood sculpture of the Mithun's head, which means strength and prosperity and has ritual value. The artisans of the Apatani tribe will carve it delicately from wood while preserving natural textures and details. It will further beautify sculpture.
Such artifacts are generally enshrined in houses, in community halls, and at the very center of cultural festivals as a piece of decoration and symbolism. Places are needed beyond arts for these objects: their use ranges from rituals and festivals to social events, thus “much” of the tribal affinity is showcased, bringing one closer to nature and agriculture.
