short description
The Korku community is an indigenous tribal group that inhabits Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and has its distinct cultural and artistic skills applied to the craft of jewelry. The Mandi, a metallic ring set with ghunghroos (bells), is one of the various kinds of ornaments produced by them. This ring serves as an ornament but has a vibrant personality of its own, celebrating a cultural identity and traditional craftsmanship. The Mandi rings are made of metals like silver, brass, or copper, and besides adorning, serve other purposes as well. The ghunghroos attached to them make a very light jingling sound when a person moves his hands and is considered to be of spiritual as well as aesthetic importance. This sound is auspicious and is mostly associated with traditional dancing, rituals, and ceremonies. The rhythmic jingling also enhances expressions in tribal performances and celebrations.
